BEARD COMMITS TO CHATHAM UNIVERSITY
Class of 2017 Cornerstone Charter Academy Catcher Chandler Beard has made his verbal commitment to further his educational and baseball careers at NCAA Division III Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Previously Beard was committed and signed to play NCAA Division II baseball at Salem International University. Beard made the decision to decommit in late January. When he was asked why he made this decision, Beard replied, "I made the decision because I realized I had to make a 40 year decision and not just a 4 year decision. Salem didn't have my intended major and it just wasn't where God wanted me to be." When Beard was asked why he chose Chatham University, he responded, "I chose Chatham because the baseball program and education there was something that I couldn't pass up. The campus is absolutely beautiful and makes me feel like I'm at home." Beard started two years of Varsity baseball at Cornerstone Charter Academy and compiled career stats of a .214 Batting Average, .434 On Base Percentage, 19 runs scored, 12 RBI, 10 stolen bases and 5 doubles. Chatham University competes in the Presidents Athletic Conference and finished 9-13 in the baseball programs inaugural season this year.
