GRENGA COMMITS TO NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE

Class of 2017 Defensive Back and Wide Receiver Trey Grenga out of Timber Creek High School in Orlando, Florida signed to play NJCAA Divison I football at New Mexico Military Institute on March 15, 2017. Grenga was a two year varsity starter at Timber Creek High School but also started his Sophomore year in New York at Central Square High School before he made the move to Florida. Timber Creek was more then lucky to get an athlete like Grenga however. He came on and was a crucial piece to the Timber Creek defense in his senior year and it showed as he led the team in interceptions with 6 and took 2 of those 6 back for a touchdown. He had a crucial interception in a regional quarterfinal game to help seal a 40-39 victory over state powerhouse Apopka High School. Additionally, Grenga had 35 solo tackles and 3 receptions for 12 yards, When you hear many people talk about Grenga, you heard the word ballhawk come up very often and that is just one of the many strengths that will come up when it is talked about his game, He is also very frequently said to have great speed, field awareness, hitting and he knows the playbook very well. However, like any other athlete Grenga does have his weaknesses. His biggest weakness is his size. Grenga doesn't worry about his size though and still holds himself to high expectations. When asked on what his goals were for his two years at NMMI he replied, "My goals are to be enlisted in the starting lineup and break the NMMI interception record and make it D I after my two years." Being the hard worker and having the abilities that Grenga possesses, it is very possible that after these next two years we will see him signing another letter but this time around it will be an NLI with a NCAA Division I school. He is looking forward to his time in New Mexico and when asked what he was most excited about he answered, "Being able to play at the college level." Grenga made his verbal commitment to NMMI via twitter on January 30, 2017 after receiving offers from many notable D2, D3 and NAIA university's. When asked what made him choose NMMI, Grenga responded, "I felt like I could do big things for NMMI." New Mexico Military Institute is located in Roswell, New Mexico and they compete in the Southwest Junior College Football Conference and finished their 2016 season 5-4.
